Procedure for Registration of Registered General Nurses, Registered Mental Nurses and Licenced Midwives
- All persons wishing to be admitted to the Register maintained by the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago should submit an application addressed to:

West Indies - Forms of Application for admission to the Register will not be entertained if in the opinion of the Council a person is not eligible to be registered.
- Admission may be effected to the following divisions or classes of the Register -
Under Part 11 of the Act - GENERAL, MENTAL Nurses
Under Part 111 of the Act - MIDWIVES - Under Part 11: Section 16 (3) - Under Part 111 Section 21 (3)
Persons on the Register maintained by the United Kingdom Central Council (now NMC) for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting and holding the Council's Statement of Registration as GENERAL NURSES, MENTAL NURSES AND MIDWIVES are eligible to apply for registration to practice in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago - Forms of Application: more details || less details

- Certificate of BIRTH. If all names of the Applicant are not on the Certificate, an AFFIDAVIT or Certificate of Baptism must be furnished in support
- Certificate of MARRIAGE (if applicable)
- Passport-sized PHOTOGRAPH (recently taken)
- STATEMENT OF REGISTRATION with the UKCC (NMC)
- Documents listed above must be ORIGINALS.

- Certificate of Character (FORM 11)
Council's Form as of Certificate as to Character is forwarded in respect of EACH PART for which admission to the Register is being sought. This Form is to be completed by either -
- the Authority of the Institution in which the specific training had been undergone
OR
- the Authority of the Institution in which the Applicant was employed (either as a Nurse or as a Midwife) for a minimum period of TWO (2) YEARS after becoming registered to practice in the relevant field. The Applicant is expected to ensure that the relevant Forms of Character are completed by the competent Authority and returned DIRECTLY to the Council. Delay in receipt of Forms of Character for each Part of the Register for which admission is being sought may cause much inconvenience.

The Applicant will request the UKCC (NMC) to forward DIRECTLY to the Council verification of her/his registration being in full force and effect at the time of application for registration to practice in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
Note the validity of this statement is acceptable only for a limited period following its issue. Where an unreasonable period has elapsed between initiation of application procedures and their completion, a NEW statement of Registration will fall to be submitted. - Fees and Charges: more details || less details
- On application for entry to the Register of:
GENERAL NURSES
MENTAL NURSES
MIDWIVES - For return of ORIGINAL documents by Registered Mail.
Note: No document is returned unless the appropriate mailing charge is remitted.
Overseas applicants submitting photocopies with original documents should at the same time remit the charge for return of the originals by registered mail.
All remittances should be by British Postal Order or by International Bank Drafts.
Applicants seeking entry to more than one Part of the Register should submit application for the different Parts at one and the same time. This would save time and expensive mailing charges. - The Council reserves the right to refuse admission to its Register of any person in the event of failure to establish to the satisfaction of the Council her/his fitness to practice in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
- The Council reserves the right to refuse admission to its Register any person submitting documents in support of an application which appear to have been altered or tampered with in any way so as to cast doubt with respect to their authenticity or, who submits documents which do not to the satisfaction of the Council establish the identity of the applicant.
- Where in the opinion of the Council an unreasonable lapse of time between initiation and completion of application procedures, such as delay being caused by the applicant, the Council may require such applicant to recommence all procedures of application, including fresh payment of the prescribed Fee for registration.
- No person may be employed as a Registered Nurse or as a Licensed Midwife in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago until registration with the Council has been effected. {Sect. 19 (1) of the Act}

- Processing Fee (NON-REFUNDABLE)
- Applicants trained in the U.K. are AR (Admission to the Register) they must submit ORIGINALS and COPIES of

- English Nursing Board (ENB) Certificate

Please note that registration will not be effected on the basis of photocopied documents, the originals for which have not been submitted. If photocopies of original documents are submitted at the same time, it will facilitate return of the original documents.
The onus lies on the Applicant to furnish testimonials as to character and an up-to-date Statement of Registration from the UKCC (NMC)
FEES and CHARGES are prescribed by the Second Schedule of the Act.
